The 33rd Macao Arts Festival Calls for Proposals of Local Programmes

Date of publication: 26/08/2021

The 33rd Macao Arts Festival (MAF), organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), will be held in May 2023. Over the years, the MAF has striven to promote the development of local arts and provide a platform for the performing arts and for artistic exchange. The IC is now inviting all registered local art and cultural associations and individuals to submit proposals of local programmes until 25 October 2021.

The MAF is committed to expanding the platform for local performing arts and attracting more creative programmes with local features. Non-profit art and cultural associations registered at the Identification Services Bureau of the Macao SAR or individuals aged 18 or above with valid Macao Resident Identity Cards are now invited to submit programme proposals. In order to encourage innovation in artistic creation and to further expand the room for the development of artists, priority will be given to works that “have never been performed publicly in Macao”, that “apply electronic or digital technologies”, and that “break through the conventional spectator-performer relationship or spatial limitations”, in addition to local theatre, Cantonese Opera, dance, children’s shows and multimedia performing arts. Meanwhile, the popular “Performing Arts Gala” will also accept proposals of outdoor family programmes; all performance styles are acceptable and priority will be given to works that feature interactive activities and characteristics of the local communities.

The regulations and application forms of the call for proposals can be downloaded from the IC’s website at www.icm.gov.mo/en/CallForFAM33. Interested local associations and individuals may submit in person during office hours or by mail the properly filled-out application form along with relevant materials to the Cultural Affairs Bureau Building, located at Tap Siac Square, or email them to fam@icm.gov.mo before 5pm on 25 October 2021, indicating the following on the envelope: “Attn: Division of Performing Arts, Cultural Affairs Bureau, Call for Proposals of Local Programmes for the 33rd Macao Arts Festival”. Shortlisted applicants from the first evaluation will be requested to attend an interview with the jury panel in early January 2022 to introduce the concept of their creations.
