Genesis and Spirit – Exhibition of Hainan Intangible Cultural Heritage

The exhibition will feature iconic intangible cultural heritage items of Hainan, including traditional Li textile techniques of spinning, dyeing, weaving and embroidering and Hainan coconut carving, demonstrations of the four textile techniques of the Li ethnic group, and photographs and promotional videos of 32 national intangible cultural heritage items of Hainan in a bid to create a space of Hainan intangible cultural heritage in the Macao Museum and relate the beautiful stories of the province.

Genesis and Spirit – Performances of Hainan Intangible Cultural Heritage

Featuring remarkable traditional music, dance, drama and opera pieces with local characteristics. The performances introduce the audience to the folk customs and traditional art of Hannan Province.

Genesis and Spirit – Arts and Crafts Demonstrations of Hainan Intangible Cultural Heritage

Hainan agarwood – interactive experience: fragrance artists will guide the participants in making sachets with Hainan’s characteristic agarwood and show how to shape the incense powder.

Traditional tea processing techniques of the Li ethnic group – tea tasting.
The Li ethnic group has a long history of tea drinking and their traditional tea processing techniques also constitute an important part of their tea culture. In 2021, the traditional tea processing techniques of the Li ethnic group were listed among the Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage Items of Wuzhishan City, Hainan Province. Participants will be guided by artisans to observe, smell and taste the tea, appreciating the essence of the Li people’s tea culture between breaths.

Genesis and Spirit – Arts and Crafts Workshops of Hainan Intangible Cultural Heritage

Inheritors of Hainan coconut carving, pottery-making technique and bamboo-weaving technique of the Li ethnic group and embroidering and wax dyeing technique of the Miao ethnic group will interact with local residents in the Mandarin’s House to engage them in the rich regional culture of Hainan Island through arts and crafts experiences.
