A National First Class Performer, Zhou was the principal timpani and the head of percussion section of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. He has made appearances with renowned musicians at the China Art Festival, Beijing Music Festival, Shanghai Spring International Music Festival, SummerStage, Year of China in France, La Folle Journée Tokyo etc.

Zhou is enthusiastic about teaching, and co-founded the Shanghai Conservatory of Music International Percussion Festival & IPEA International Percussion Competition. He is currently a professor and supervisor of for Master’s degree students at the Department of Modern Instruments and Percussion of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and is the vice-president of the Percussion Society of China and the deputy director of the Percussion Committee of Shanghai Musician Association. He has been the executive chairman and managing director of the International Percussion Education Association since 2015.
