Wu studied under Chen Jiuhe at Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where he graduated with distinction in 1997 and got the highest score in the chamber music examination. He then joined the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra and toured Europe, the United States and Canada. He was appointed as the Acting Principal Cello in 2006, and then the Principal Cello in 2012. Apart from orchestral performances, he also appears in chamber music performances. In 2012, he performed a triple concerto in a concert of new works at the China Conservatory of Music. In 2017, he toured France and Spain as a chamber musician. The performance in Spain was broadcasted live via Televisión Española and received great acclaim. Wu is now the vice-president of Shenzhen Cello Association.
