Wu graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, majoring in Trumpet Performance. He was the principal trumpet of the Shanghai Opera House, the guest principal trumpet of the China Philharmonic Orchestra, Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, Tianjin Symphony Orchestra and Xinjiang Philharmonic Orchestra, and is currently the principal trumpet of the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra and a director of the Trumpet Committee in China.

In 2007, Wu furthered his studies in Germany, graduating from the Karlsruhe University of Music, and obtaining a Master of Music in Trumpet Performance from the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart. He was the guest trumpet of Theater Heilbronn and the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, and held a recital in Stuttgart after graduation. He was a jury member for the Youth Symphonic Band Competition by Shenzhen Association for Symphonic Bands and the Hong Kong International Music Festival Music Competition (Shenzhen Region).
