Liu began her music education in Taiwan at an early age and won numerous awards in both cello and piano competitions. She studied at the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University in the United States on a scholarship, earning a double Bachelor’s degree in Cello and Piano, a Master’s and a Doctor’s degree in Cello Performance. During her stay in the United States, Liu has held piano and cello solo recitals, and was invited four times to perform concertos with the San Francisco Civic Symphony under the baton of Garret Gerritsen..

Liu currently teaches at the Department of Music of the Taiwan University of Arts and serves as a columnist for the classical music magazine Muzik. She is also the music director of Mysterium Musicum and the Principal Cello of YinQi Symphony Orchestra & Chorus. She holds solo recitals every year, performs chamber music, and has commissioned new works.
