Li is the associate professor and postgraduate supervisor of Xinghai Conservatory of Music, the former principal horn of the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, a member of the China Horn Ensemble and a director of the Shanxi Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles. He started to learn the horn from his father when he was a child, and was admitted to the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music of the National University of Singapore on a full scholarship. In 2007, he was admitted to the University of Music Saar, where he completed the Konzertexamen in Chamber Music under the tutelage of Han Xiaoming and Eduard Brunner.

Li has made appearances in Europe, the United States, Africa and Southeast Asia, as well as with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Beijing Symphony Orchestra, Hebei Symphony Orchestra, Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra, and Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra. Besides, he is passionate about promoting the horn and its music.
