In order to actively promote the development of classical music in Macao, encourage young local musicians to explore their musical potential, and provide them with valuable stage experience and learning opportunities, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) organizes the “39th Macao Young Musicians Competition” in July and August. Applications will be open from 18 to 24 March. All interested eligible individuals are welcome to participate.

This edition of the Macao Young Musicians Competition, dedicated to piano, features 18 categories with elementary, intermediate and advanced levels. Participants must hold a valid Macao SAR Resident Identity Card and must have been born in or after 2000. A First, Second and Third prizes, Distinction and Merit certificate will be awarded in each category. All the First Prize winners of each solo category or participants recommended by the jury will have the opportunity to participate in the “Special Prizes Competition”, and can compete for the “Best Performance in Elementary Category”, “Best Performance in Intermediate Category” and “Cultural Affairs Bureau Prize”. All First Prize winners in the ensemble category will have the opportunity to compete for the “Best Ensemble Performance Prize”.

Applicants can first register online through the Macao Young Musicians Competition website or make an appointment for on-site registration by phone from 10am on 18 March until 4pm on 24 March. After an appointment is made, they can go to the Cultural Affairs Bureau Building located at Tap Siac Square at the designated time for on-site registration. Successful applicants who receive the confirmation message can submit the required documents and an application fee of MOP100 per category in person at the Cultural Bureau Building located at Tap Siac Square, from 12pm to 7pm (open during lunch hour), between 25 and 28 March.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau will adjust the competition arrangements and adopt corresponding anti-epidemic measures in response to the development of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
