Wu studied under Chen Jiuhe at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. He graduated with distinction in 1997 and got the highest score in the chamber music examination. He then joined the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra and toured Europe, America and Canada. In 2006, he was appointed as the Acting Principal Cello and became the Principal Cello in 2012. Apart from orchestral performances, he also appears in chamber music performances. In 2012, he performed a triple concerto in a new works concert held at the China Conservatory of Music. In 2017, he toured France and Spain as a member of chamber ensemble. The performance in Spain was broadcasted live via Televisión Española and received great acclaim. Wu is now the Deputy Director of Shenzhen Cello Association.
