Shiu, born in Hong Kong, began his trombone studies at the age of 14, and was a three-time winner of the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival Senior Trombone Solo Competition. He studied at the Cleveland Institute of Music on a full scholarship and graduated with a Master’s degree in Trombone Performance, being the first Chinese to earn this degree. An active soloist, recitalist, educator, chamber musician and trombone endorser, Shiu currently teaches at Chinese Culture University and Shih Chien University. His students hold positions in major symphony orchestras in Asia. He has given masterclasses throughout Asia, toured extensively as a recitalist, and performed as a soloist with several leading concert bands from Hong Kong.
