Li is the Associate Professor of Xinghai Conservatory of Music, the former Principal Horn of the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, a member of the China Horn Ensemble and a director of the Shanxi Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles. He started to learn the horn from his father when he was a child, and was admitted to the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore, on a full scholarship. In 2007, he was admitted the University of Music Saar, where he completed the Konzertexamen in Chamber Music under the tutelage of Han Xiaoming and Eduard Brunner.

Li has made appearance in Europe, the United States, Africa and Southeast Asia, as well as with orchestras such as the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Beijing Symphony Orchestra, Hebei Symphony Orchestra, Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra, and Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra. Besides, he is passionate about promoting the horn and its music.
