Zhejiang Province is naturally endowed with
scenic beauty and ingenious people. Over many generations, a glamorous legacy of
folk culture and art of astonishing beauty and refined craftsmanship has
evolved.
For a few months beginning 28th
August, Lou Kau Mansion – built in the style of the Lingnan region – will host a
Folk Art Show. The show will feature traditional handicrafts such as Dongyang
bamboo weaving, Fanhuang bamboo carving, glass engraving, Hangzhou embroidery,
Xihu silk umbrellas, Hangzhou fans and micro-engraving.
Such famed Zhejiang artifacts as Dongyang
woodcarvings, embroidered frameless lanterns, Xiashi lantern making, and Huzhou
writing brushes – inscribed on the First Selection of National Intangible
Cultural Heritage List – will be exhibited. With the support of the Department
of Culture of Zhejiang Province, many renowned artisans will join us at Lou Kau
Mansion to demonstrate their craft and put the colourful folk art of Zhejiang
directly under the spotlight!
