Zhejiang Province is naturally endowed with scenic beauty and ingenious
people
The traditional arts and crafts of Shandong Province enjoy
great prestige all over China and play an immensely important
role in the Nation’s folk arts arena. At once elegant and simple,
concise and lively, they take shape in the hands of master
craftspeople who employ unique skills, materials, designs and
colours in their creation.
Lou Kau Mansion continues its series of exhibitions
demonstrating the unique folk arts characteristic of the various
regions of Shandong Province with several types of traditional
arts and crafts. These include the Gaomi Niejiazhuang Clay
Figurines and Weifang Cloth Toys, with their rich, rustic charm,
Confucian Kai Wood Carving, a cherished art handed down
for generations, the virtuosic and delicate arts of Zibo Interior
Surface Painting and Micro-carving and the refined and ancient
Dezhou Black Pottery, as well as Laixi Gourd Carving and the
Linqu Red Silk Inkstones.
These items not only reflect the diversity, superb skill and
unique characteristics inherent in Shandong’s various folk art
schools, they are a testament to the accomplished conservation
efforts made on behalf of these traditional arts and the culture of
the Province.
