Genesis and Spirit showcases Henan Province Intangible Cultural Heritage at Ruins of St. Paul’s
Lou Kau Mansion and Mandarin’s House host folk arts showcase and workshops

“Genesis and Spirit- Showcase of Henan Province Intangible Cultural Heritage” is hosted at the Ruins of St. Paul’s today and tomorrow, whilst folk arts showcase and workshops are available from 14 June (Sunday) until 28 June. All are welcome.

One of the highlighted events in celebration of the 10th anniversary of Macao’s inscription on the World Heritage List as well of the 2015 China Cultural Heritage Day is “Genesis and Spirit- Showcase of Henan Province Intangible Cultural Heritage”, which aims to introduce the variety of Henan Province intangible cultural heritage to the population through exhibitions, demonstrations, workshops and a lecture, among others. On 13 June, at 5pm, and 14 June, at 11am, St. Paul’s Ruins hosts performances of Henan Province Intangible Cultural Heritage, including Kaifeng Drums, Tai Chi Chuan, Yu Opera, Gushi Huatiao Dance, 18 Songs of Songs and Drums, Qu Opera and Shaolin Kungfu, etc. Each performance lasts for about 1 hour.

Tambores Kaifeng, Ópera Yu, as 18 músicas de gongos e tambores, Ópera Qu, bem como artes marciais de Shaolin, Tai Chi e ópera de Henan, cuja duração de cada actuação aproxima-se de uma hora.

The series of activities of “Genesis and Spirit” also includes several crafts showcase and workshops, allowing residents to directly meet artisans. Between 14 and 28 June, at 10:30am to 1:30pm and 2:30pm to 5:30pm, Lou Kau Mansion showcases New Year woodblock prints (from Zhuxianzhen), Lantern Art (Zhang Lanterns from Bianjing), Art of paper-cutting and Clay Sculpture (Clay Dog from Huayang).

Workshops of the aforementioned intangible cultural heritage items will be hosted at the Mandarin’s House, successively on 20, 21, 27 and 28 June. Artisans will teach related skills, enabling residents to experience the crafts manufacturing process. Admission to the workshops is free. Teaching materials will be provided. Two workshops are held each day, from 10:30am to 1pm, and from 3pm to 5:30pm. For enquiries and reservations for the workshops, please call 2896 8820, during office hours.
