Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) and co-organized by the Municipal Affairs Bureau and the Macao Government Tourism Office, the “hush! 2021 Concerts” will be held from 6 to 28 November. This year’s concert is themed “musical feasts along the coast”, alluding to the fact that Macao is a coastal city which embraces different cultures from all over the world, imbuing its pop music with the characteristics of openness and diversity which create a unique cultural landscape of its own. Over 50 local bands, musicians and art groups will jointly present this annual pop music extravaganza in Macao across a number of events performed on various stages along the coast.
The music event “Listen to hush! in the Tent” will kick off at the Macao Science Centre Square on 6 and 7 November, offering the audience a variety of genres such as rock, jazz, folk, electronic, punk, heavy metal, pop and a cappella music. There will be joint performances of electronic music, BMX demonstrations and skateboarding, as well as nearly 100 booths selling local cultural and creative products and co-branded hush! products, offering concert-goers a diverse range of creative products and foods from Macao. Moreover, the “GEG hush! kids” will be set up this year, providing a stage and a children’s recreation area where the audience can enjoy the performances by music bands composed of children and teenagers. Musicals on stilts, interactive games and musical entertainment booths will also be available during the event.
The “Coastal Rock Concert”, presented for the first time this year, will be held in two parts on 21 November. The first part, “Music Whirling under the Big Tree”, will be held at the Barra Square, where enchanting performances of handpan and modern folk music will be presented. Afterwards, several bands will embark on a dredger owned by SJM Resorts, S. A. and perform over the water as the sun sets. Built in 1965, the dredger “STDM No. 1” now retired from service and was turned into a lifting barge. Several seats over the sea will be provided and members of the public may reserve their seats to enjoy the performance up close. Open space with free seating will also be available to the public.
On 19 November, the concert “Lost in Cities – Looking for Rainbow” Electronic Music Night will be held at the Macao Contemporary Art Centre - Navy Yard No. 2, where electronic music artists will debut their latest creations from the Subsidy Programme for the Production of Original Song Albums. On 20 November, the “Upbeat Power Concert” will be held with a programme featuring Japanese rock, heavy metal and pop music.
Set against the beautiful scenery of the old quarters of the Inner Harbour and the coast of Wan Chai in Zhuhai, the “Rooftop Sunset Concerts” will be held at the Ponte 9 Rooftop on the evening of 27 and 28 November, including the concert “Ladies Voices in Sea Breeze”, which will feature several female artists, and the concert “The Comfortable World of Music”, which will showcase a variety of genres from acoustic music, electronic music to singing bowls.
Admission to all hush! concerts is free, but due to the limited space of some venues, interested parties may register through the “Activities Registration System” on IC’s website (www.icm.gov.mo/eform/event) from 10am on 5 November. Seats are limited and distribution is on a first-come, first-served basis. In addition to the concerts, this year’s “hush! 2021 Concerts” will also feature a diverse range of music workshops, and interested parties may register through the same system from the same date and time indicated above.
