Having played Bach as a youngster, violinist Leonidas Kavakos stopped performing the composer’s music in public, seeking to re-examine his relationship with the immortal genius, recalibrating his baroque technique. Upon this reflective hiatus, he returned to Bach in 2022, to our great delight, with the release of Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin. This time, Kavakos turns to the composer’s violin concertos from the early 18th century, which he intends to perform with possibly the smallest group of musicians in the orchestral part. The ApollΩn Ensemble of five string players and a harpsichordist couldn’t be a better choice. Together, they craft an intimate atmosphere, where soloist and ensemble are one and the same. Pairing a single instrument with each of the ensemble parts creates a particular harmonic and rhythmic world that both complements and enhances everyone’s interpretation. Displaying a wide variety and richness of sounds, the concert will intensely immerse and inspire us.
