21/10/2019

Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the 33rd Macao International Music Festival (MIMF) will continue to offer several musical performances this week. The Sejong Soloists and local young violinist Sophia Su will join hands to bring the concert “Serenade of Strings” to the stage; Peter Broderick, a music prodigy from the United States, will guide the audience to embark on a cross-disciplinary musical journey; the closing concert “The Yellow River Cantata” will be presented as a tribute to celebrate and commemorate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 20th anniversary of Macao’s Handover to China.

The Sejong Soloists are committed to nurturing the next generation of musical talent. The string orchestra will team up with Macao’s violin prodigy, Sophia Su, to present enchanting melodies in the concert “Serenade of Strings” on 27 October, at the Macao Cultural Centre Small Auditorium; on the same day, talented North-American musician Peter Broderick, playing various roles on stage, will take the public on a varied cross-disciplinary musical journey at the Taipa Houses Amphitheatre; the closing concert “The Yellow River Cantata”, jointly presented by the Macao Orchestra and the China NCPA Chorus, to be held on 30 October at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium, features a programme of timeless classics to commemorate the historical moment of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 20th anniversary of Macao’s Handover to China.

In addition, two world-class musicians, Svetlin Roussev and Yeol Eum Son, will present a number of well-known classical masterpieces in the concert “A Musical Affair” on 24 October at the Dom Pedro V Theatre. On 26 October, they will also team up with the Sejong Soloists to present Mendelssohn’s Double Concerto in D minor in the concert “Encounter Four Seasons” at the Macao Cultural Centre Small Auditorium.

This edition of the Festival features a number of outreach activities, including the talk “Deconstructing Electronic Music” on 27 October, which seeks to explore the charm of electronic music; and the pre-show talk “The Yellow River Cantata” concert on 30 October, in which the Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Macao Orchestra, Lu Jia, will share backstage stories.
