Tickets for the 33rd Macao International Music Festival (MIMF), organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, went on sale on 4 August (Sunday). Enthusiastic members of the public waited at different ticketing outlets to purchase tickets. Sales reached a satisfactory result as more than 3,700 tickets were sold up to 5pm on the first day of ticket sales. The percentage of the ticket sales was more than 50 %.

This edition of the MIMF, themed “The Instrumentalist”, will be held from 4 October to 30 October, gathering internationally acclaimed musicians and orchestras from around the world and offering 17 programmes in a total of 22 excellent performances. On the first day of ticket sales, tickets for the closing concert “The Yellow River Cantata” and some sessions of “Melodies from Jiangnan” were nearly sold out. “The Magic Flute”, “Dorian Wind Quintet and Billy Childs”, “A Musical Affair” and “Manding Griot” were highly sought after. “Pontos nos Is”,  “Aquilonis” and “Folk Songs” performed by Trio Mediaeval from Norway were also popular among music fans.

The MIMF is a much anticipated cultural event for music aficionados every single year, and this year's programme is splendid. “The Magic Flute”, jointly produced by the Komische Oper Berlin and the British theatre group “1927”, combines film animation with live singing in perfection. The prestigious Vienna Philharmonic will return to Macao to perform under the baton of the most sought-after Columbian-Austrian conductor Andrés Orozco-Estrada, joining hands with the famous Chinese pianist Yuja Wang. The Vienna Philharmonic’s annual midsummer open-air concert has become their own annual event, broadcast every year by the European Broadcasting Union. The orchestra will hold an outdoor concert in Macao, providing the Macao audience with a world-class event. Performances such as “When the East Meets the West in Music”, “Bravo Macao!”, “Serenade for Strings” and “Encounter Four Seasons” are also not to be missed.
