Music is not that simple - Music Therapy Workshop

In recent years, music therapy in Macao has been gaining popularity but quite a few people still question or misunderstand this profession. As a USA board-certified Music Therapist (MT-BC), Vivian is going to introduce the concept of music therapy, responsibilities of a music therapist, how music therapy works, beneficiaries of music therapy and some common practices used in music therapy. She will also talk about music therapy in Macao and real-life cases. The workshop provides experience activities to share with the audience how a music therapist uses music to help a patient.

Vivian Lok

Vivian Lok is a USA board-certified Music Therapist (MT-BC), who was born in Macau. Vivian graduated from the University of Kansas, majoring in Music Therapy. She is the first Music Therapist who earned the professional designation of being a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Music Therapist (NICU-MT) in the Hong Kong and Macau area. Vivian returned to Macau in 2014 and started the first Medical Music Therapist post at Kiang Wu Hospital, specializing in neonatal, pediatrics and rehabilitation.

Vivian had been invited to various Hong Kong media to talk about medical Music Therapy. She is also one of the authors of Music is not that simple: Music Therapy case studies.  

In 2015, she gained the qualification of being a Music Therapist Assisted Child Birth Practitioner (MTACB) as well. Currently, she is a professional member of the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA), Certification Board for Music Therapist (CBMT) and the President of the Macau Association of Music Therapists (MAMT).
