Macao Chinese Orchestra inaugurates new 2020-2021 Concert Season

The Macao Chinese Orchestra (OCHM, from the Portuguese acronym), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, inaugurated its 2020-2021 Concert Season on 4 October with the concert “A Century of Chinese Music”, integrated in the Macao International Music Festival - For a Special Year, attracting a large number of aficionados. OCHM invited a number of outstanding Chinese musicians to perform for music aficionados in a series of concerts throughout the new season. Tickets for the concerts “The Story of My Small Town with You”, integrated in the first round of the special production series and “Enchanting Tunes from the Screen 2” will be on sale at the Macau Ticketing Network from 10am on 8 October (Thursday).

The new concert season offers a number of excellent programmes, including the concert “The Story of My Small Town with You” to be held on 8 November, at 8pm, at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium. In order to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the passing of the queen of Chinese music Teresa Teng, Wang Zifei, renowned female singer from mainland China, will join hands with OCHM to perform a number of Teresa Teng’s famous songs. With the support of its special arts partner, the Galaxy Entertainment Group Foundation, OCHM will once again present the concert “Enchanting Tunes from the Screen 2”, which combines Chinese music with soundtracks from films and television series, allowing aficionados to experience the melodious combination and reminiscences of the bygone days. The concert will be held on 14 November at 8pm, at the Broadway Theatre.

In addition, in order to commemorate the development of traditional Chinese orchestral music in the past century, OCHM promotes the “Classics Series”, which features the special concert “Dialogue Between the East and the West”, integrated in the 31st Macao Arts Festival, as well as the 2020-2021 Season Closing Concert, “Inheritance and Development”, which reviews the classics. OCHM will also hold the concerts “Listen to the Voice of the Chinese”, in celebration of the 21st anniversary of Macao’s Handover to China, the Valentine’s Day Concert “Sentiments” – Lin Daye and Macao Chinese Orchestra, the concert “The Future Conductor” and the musical theatre performance for families “Music Adventure III”, in order to express sentiments of love, family affection and patriotism. OCHM will also keep on co-organising the concerts “Chinese Music” with the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau on campus, in order to promote Chinese music in kindergartens and in primary and secondary schools, and to pass on Chinese traditional culture.

In order to further integrate Chinese music in society, OCHM will perform concerts to promote the intangible cultural heritage, including Taoist ritual music, Cantonese Naamyam and Xi’an drum music. A series of concerts such as “Music in World Heritage”, “Concerts in Museums”, “Strolling in the Garden, Listening to Music”, and “Community Involvement with Music” will also be successively held in order to enrich the cultural life of the public.
