The Macao Cultural Centre, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, presents three new shows celebrating its 20th anniversary with an eclectic string of performances aimed at a wide audience range, running from late March, to late April. From classical music and top notch drama to contemporary dance for the whole family, CCM opens up for a new cycle with an international and regional selection of renowned productions and performers.

The Cleveland Orchestra        31.03.2019 (Sun)
Dubbed as one of the world’s greatest symphonic acts, The Cleveland Orchestra is scheduled at the Grand Auditorium for a concert conducted by Franz Welser-Möst, its long time music director. The ensemble will take the audience through Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto and Prokofiev’s thrilling Symphony No. 3, bringing fresh tones and renewed emotion to the first week of spring. Considered the best in America, the orchestra will be joined by guest soloist Daniil Trifonov, a prodigy pianist groomed at the Cleveland Institute of Music and described as “without question the most astounding pianist of our age”.

Pinocchio        20-21.04.2019 (Sat - Sun)
The charm of the world’s best known marionette will take over CCM’s stage with Pinocchio, a contemporary dance and physical theatre for the whole family. Carlo Collodi’s classic story-book is brought to life by the Jasmin Vardimon Company in a tale of visual delight, interpreted by a breath-taking cast of dancers. This theatrical dream takes the audience on a magical exploration as the little wooden boy discovers what it takes to become human. Best known for her urban dance choreographies, Jasmin Vardimon has spent nearly 20 years imagining critically acclaimed shows, becoming one of UK’s main stars on the stage scene.

The Father        26-28. 04.2019 (Fri-Sun)
The Hong Kong Repertory Theatre will be staging the touching and darkly humoured world of The Father, a play that has captivated the most celebrated international stages, from New York to London and Sydney, in top-notch theatrical productions performed by renowned companies. Penned by France’s hottest literary talent and awarded playwright Florian Zeller, this is the poignant story of an 80-year old man who gradually loses touch with reality, afflicted by Alzheimer’s disease. Performed in Cantonese and featuring the legendary artistic director Fredric Mao on the leading role, The Father’s ambivalence confronts the audience with the emotional hues and inner turmoil stemming from an increasingly common condition in modern societies.

Throughout 2019, CCM is presenting a series of shows specially selected to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Tickets for all three programmes scheduled for March and April will be available from February 24 at CCM’s box office and Macao Ticketing Network outlets at various prices and discounts.
