The 31st Macao International Music Festival (MIMF) organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau will be held from 29 September to 30 October. Young artists from Israel present an outdoor new production of the opera Orfeo ed Euridice at Mount Fortress, reinterpreting a poignant and legendary love story from Greek mythology. New musical rising stars take to the Festival’s stages one after the other, giving music aficionados an opportunity not to be missed. Tickets are now available.

The MIMF and the Israeli Opera join hands to bring to life an entirely new outdoor production of Orfeo ed Euridice, a new outdoor opera produced by the Festival, following an outdoor production held in 1992. Among the many opera versions of Orfeo’ story, Christoph Willibald Gluck’s work is considered to be one of the most important operas of the 18th century. The audience will be able to experience the immersive effects of an outdoor opera.

Promising American jazz singer Jazzmeia Horn will take to the Mount Fortress stage with the concert “A Social Call” and lets the audience feel the vitality of jazz. Young Russian pianist Lukas Geniušas will perform Chopin’s complete Études, Ravel’s Sonatine in F-sharp Minor and Prokofiev’s 10 Pieces, showcasing his ability to master a wide variety of styles. Four young Macao musicians, Lo Cheng Io, Suiong Wong, Leong Cheok Wun and Ho Chun, present the two “Bravo Macao!” concerts, highlighting the talent and artistic achievements of Macao’s new music stars. In addition, limited additional tickets for the concert “William So & The Macao Chinese Orchestra” on 28 October are available, music aficionados are advised to purchase tickets soon.

In order to increase the public’s interest and participation in music activities, this edition of the MIMF organizes an Outreach Programme; registrations are now open. The backstage tour “Andrea Chénier – Giordano’s Opera in Four Acts” will allow the public to perceive the originality of this production’s sets. The Berlin-based Japanese young vibraphonist and composer el fog (Masayoshi Fujita) leads a composing workshop where he will interact and share creative experiences with Macao musicians. The talks “Classical Music With Innovative Ideas - Ka-Jeng Wong’s Music Promotion Experiment”, “Andrea Chénier – Poet Guillotined for Love” and “The vanished promise to digital music and the practice of creating one’s own music”, among other activities, explore different music topics. Most of the Outreach Programme activities are free of charge, but vacancies are limited. Reservations can be made through the webpage www.icm.gov.mo/eform/event.
