Professor Jao Tsung-I was an internationally renowned sinologist and had a close connection with Macao. In order to fully demonstrate his outstanding academic and artistic achievements, the Cultural Affairs Bureau founded the Jao Tsung-I Academy in 2015, showcasing his works and promoting Chinese culture and art. Located at No. 95C-D, Avenida do Conselheiro Ferreira de Almeida, Macao, the Jao Tsung-I Academy features exhibition rooms, a library, an auditorium, as well as a front yard and a backyard, with a permanent exhibition on the first floor to showcase the creative works by Professor Jao. A new exhibition of paintings and calligraphy by Professor Jao is currently in preparation, allowing the public to appreciate the sinologist’s masterpieces and appreciate the long history of Chinese culture.

Professor Jao had made prominent achievements and outstanding contributions in fields of literature, art and academics. He has devoted immense support to Macao’s cultural and generously donated paintings and calligraphy to the cultural departments of Macao. In recent years, the Jao Tsung-I Academy has hosted the exhibitions “Jao Tsung-I’s Painting and Calligraphy from the Collection of the Macao Museum of Art” and “Oneness: Calligraphy by Professor Jao Tsung-I”, allowing the public to appreciate his paintings and calligraphy. The exhibitions were well received by the public.

In order to demonstrate Professor Jao’s concurrent pursuit in academics and art, and to provide more opportunities for the public to participate in Chinese cultural activities, the exhibition room on the first floor of the Academy will be dedicated exclusively to present Professor Jao’s paintings and calligraphy, and will not be available for rent. However, the exhibition room and library on the ground floor, and the auditorium on the first floor, can be used for exhibitions, lectures, workshops and other activities related to Chinese culture.
