The “59th Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition” will be held in April 2022 in Venice, Italy. The Macao Art Museum (MAM), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, is calling for submission of proposals for the Macao-China Pavilion at the Biennale from today until 13 August. All interested teams are welcome to submit their proposals.

The chief curator of the “59th Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition” is Cecilia Alemani. This call for submissions of proposals for the Macao-China Pavilion is open to teams only, and the team must be comprised of at least two members, one of whom must be the curator (who may be a Macao or non-Macao resident); and the exhibitor and proposer must hold a valid permanent Macao SAR Resident Identity Card; all members of the team must be aged above 18 years old and at least one of them must have participated in contemporary art exhibitions or have studied an art course. The jury will be comprised of art experts in relevant fields as well as representatives from IC; the final selection will be announced in September this year.

Established in 1895, the “Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition” is the oldest biennale and one of the three major art exhibitions in the world, which is also the largest international contemporary art exchange platform. In 2019, the Biennale drew in over 590,000 visitors and art lovers from all over the world. It has been the seventh time that MAM has participated in this artistic event under the name of “Macao-China” since 2007. A total of 17 artists have participated in the exhibition on behalf of Macao, China, thereby promoting Macao’s contemporary art on the international stage and allowing audiences from around the world to understand the current status of art in Macao.
