The 24th Macao Young Musicians Competition (MYMC) has successfully finalized. A continuous improvement in local youths’ music level was shown through the contestants’ outstanding performances. This Sunday (July 30) at 8pm, the Cultural Affairs Bureau will invite winners of ten of the competition categories to perform in the “Prize Awarding Ceremony and Concert of the Winners”, which will be held in the Macao Polytechnic Institute Auditorium. Also, the “Cultural Affairs Bureau Prize” and “Virtuosity Prize” will be awarded during the concert.

This year’s MYMC has attracted over 700 local music learners. Winners for different categories such as Chinese Instruments, Western Instruments and vocals were selected after 37 intense competitions. In order to provide the winners with an opportunity to display their talents and to share the fruit of their hard work, the Cultural Affairs Bureau has organized the “Prize Awarding Ceremony and Concert of the Winners” for some of the winners to perform their winning pieces.

Loi Hon Cheong will perform in solo Concerto for alto saxophone in E-flat major; Wu Yizhi, Iong Hou In and Lei Chi Cheng will perform Chamber Music for String Instruments Folk Dance; Leong Chi Chong will perform French horn solo Aria; Ma Chi Weng will perform guzheng solo Spring Arrived in Lhasa; Ao Chon Fai will perform clarinet solo Rondo; Cheng Iek Si, Hoi Mang Hong, Cheong Sio Pang, Chan Hio Ian and Cheng Ka U will perform Lehar’s Wind Quintet in E flat major; Su Fei Nga will perform violin solo Wedding March; Fan Ka Hou will perform in solo Mozart’s Andante in C major for Flute and Piano; Cheong Veng Va, Leong Cheok Wun and Tam Kei Iong will perform gaohu and guzheng ensemble Spring is Coming; and Ho Ieong Cheng will perform in solo Viola Concerto in D Major.

At the end of the concert, fifteen judges from Beijing, Hong Kong and Macao will select winners for the “Cultural Affairs Bureau Prize” and “Virtuosity Prize”, which are scholarships awarded to outstanding young musicians to further their studies either locally or abroad.
