Type Music Competition
The 22nd Young Musicians of Macao Competition, organised by the Cultural Institute, will take place between 1 - 9 May of this year. The enrolment period began on 1 March and ends on 7 March, so interested parties are advised to waste no time in enrolling. In order to enrol, contestants should bring the Competition Enrolment Form, the original and a copy of their Macao Resident’s I.D. Card, their Student Card, a copy of the score for their free choice piece and the enrolment fees to the Macao Conservatory in Avenida de Horta e Costa, no. 16, open every day 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. (with no break for lunch). This year’s Competition is divided into over fifty categories grouped into four divisions, namely: Western instuments, Chinese instruments, Instrumental ensembles and groups and Vocal. Western instruments include the violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, French horn, trumpet, trombone, baritone, tuba, percussion, guitar and recorder. Chinese instruments include the dizi, sheng, suona, guan, xun, xiao, hulusi, liuqin, guzheng, pipa, yanqin, ruan, gaohu, erhu, zhonghu and banhu. The “Young Musicians of Macao Competition” is an annual event aimed at encouraging local musical development, enhancing artistic knowledge and raising the performance levels of the young musicians of Macao. For twenty one years now, this initiative has also provided young people with a chance to add to their stage experience, thereby contributing to an improvement in their artistic level. The “Cultural Institute” Prize and the Virtuosity Prize will once again be on offer, providing the opportunity to study abroad on short or long courses.
