32nd Macao International Music Festival kicks off with opera L’Elisir d’Amore

The 32nd Macao International Music Festival (MIMF), organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will be held from September to October. The theme of this year’s Festival is “Enjoy - The moment in music”, in the hope that audience will be able to enjoy the moment and feel the joy and harmony through music.

The Macao International Music Festival is a grand cultural feast that music aficionados anticipate every year. Tickets for the performances of this year’s Festival will be available for sale in August. The Cultural Affairs Bureau is going to preview a  series of highlighted programmes which is rich in content and diverse in genres. To commemorate the 170th anniversary of the death of composer Gaetano Donizetti, the MIMF will kick off with the timeless opera in two acts L’Elisir d’Amore, demonstrating the magic of love through magnificent music. The internationally celebrated Hagen Quartet will demonstrate its virtuosity and seamless rapport; Jamaican jazz pianist Monty Alexander will showcase his talent in A Life in Jazz, pervading the atmosphere with a passionate and lively jazz flavour; the Macao Orchestra and the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra will jointly present Anton Bruckner’s magnum opus Symphony No. 8 in C Minor, specially adopting the long-buried original version (1887), thus deeply touching the source of humanity’s feelings and inspirations.

This year, the Festival will present classics from Germany and Austria: Camerata Salzburg from Mozart’s hometown joins hands with famous French violinist Renaud Capuçon and bring the purest interpretation of Viennese School of classical music, demonstrating the fantastic dialogue between the soloist and the orchestra; with a history of over 400 years, the Staatskapelle Dresden will present the most authentic German music under the baton of renowned conductor Christian Thielemann, perfectly delivering the symphonies by Romantic composer Schumann.
