Brazilian cellist Antonio Meneses, first prize winner at the ARD International Music Competition in Munich and the International Tchaikovsky Competition, is renowned for his elegant, restrained and exquisite performance. He has played with such top-notch orchestras as the Berliner Philharmoniker, the London Symphony Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic, as well as at major music halls and festivals.
This concert features a sophisticated repertoire: the very challenging Caprices for Solo Cello by Piatti, involving complicated skills and interesting melody, and Bach’s Cello Suite, the ultimate test for any cellists, will provide a chance for Meneses to spark through his unhurried, mellow narration with the bow; and Cassadó’s Suite for Cello Solo ingeniously integrates the structure of Bach’s Cello Suite and traditional Spanish dance music. Such well-orchestrated programming certainly promises a fantastic performance!
