With fingers flapping over the keyboard and a flowing sound, Jamaican pianist Monty Alexander, a gem of the jazz world, plays with a sparkling swing. Migrating to the U.S. at the age of 17, he has achieved impeccable skills through his 50-year plus career. Known for his impromptus, lucid and lively style, and enchanting rhythms, he has long been a much sought-after jazz musician, having played with towering figures like Ray Brown, Milt Jackson, Herb Ellis and Dizzy Gillespie.
Once influenced by Wynton Kelly and Oscar Peterson, hence his eclectic style, Alexander has developed a strong vocabulary of swing and bebop in addition to reggae fusion. Lately he has been trying newer jazzy trends by re-arranging Bob Marley's music, thus fascinating fans with his unbridled creativity.
