Date of publication: 25/07/2017

The 31st Macao International Music Festival’s (MIMF) Outreach Programme features 19 activities in six categories, including talks, pre-show talks, backstage tours, master classes, workshops and community activities, thereby allowing music fans to broaden their horizons.

Promising pianist Lukas Geniušas, who won numerous prizes in different international competitions such as the “Young Talent” prize in Russia and the Silver medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition, were invited to conduct a master class for this edition of the MIMF, personally steering local pianists. Germany-based Japanese young vibraphonist and composer Masayoshi Fujita, also known as el fog, and American jazz star Jazzmeia Horn will host workshops and meet local musicians face to face; additionally, the Festival also offers a music therapy workshop and “How to play percussion instruments – Family Percussion workshop”, widely offering meeting and exchange opportunities with music fans from different ages and background.

In order to allow music fans with different preferences to explore more possibilities of music out of the auditoriums, this edition of the MIMF brings a series of community activities. Talks will be conducted by the founder of the “Music Lab Festival” from Hong Kong, Ka-Jeng Wong; the director of “StreetVoice” from Taiwan, Chill Out Tree; and Angela Law Tsin Fung from Hong Kong, who specializes in film music, to share their perspectives on classical music promotion, digital music streaming and stories behind movie music respectively. Two community screenings We Are X and Song From The Forest will be held at Cinematheque.Passion, and the record producer who is actively involved in the music industries in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, Eric Chan, as well as an independent musical promoter Tu Fei were invited to conduct a post-screening sharing session, enriching the perspectives in appreciating films.

Popular backstage tours will be continuously held this year, offering opportunities for participants to explore the costumes, props and sets behind the scenes of the opera Andrea Chénier. Furthermore, a number of talks and pre-show talks will be held between September and October, which will be conducted by Chow Fan Fu, David Lu, Michael Luk, Brian Montgomery, Leon Chu and Ernest Wan.
