22nd MACAO INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL

The Macao International Music Festival is sounding the horns for the last and most radiant performance of this year’s edition. Between October 31 (Friday) and November 2 (Sunday), Macao is to receive the World Premiere of one of the rarest operatic works by Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924).

Following the tradition of the Macao International Music Festival (MIMF), this year’s edition takes us again around the world, and this weekend is no exception. After a voyage through the old Mediterranean sounds of Júlio Pereira’s mandolin, the 22nd MIMF shifts north, now pointing at Germany to summon the distinguished Haydn Quartet, which now returns to Macao to reaffirm its success (25/10, Saturday, 8pm, Dom Pedro V Theatre).

After evoking some of the most appreciated sacred music from the Austrian genius, Wolfgang A. Mozart, the 14-voice Ars Nova Vocal Ensemble (Hungary) returns to the applause of audiences on October 21 (Tuesday, 8pm, St. Dominic’s Church, admission with free ticket) to reveal the mysteries of Hungarian choral music.

Chalking up an array of successes, the Macao International Music Festival continues to surprise Macao, this time round presenting the Pedro Giraudo Jazz Orchestra, a big band led by its Argentinean bassist, which has captivated listeners around the world with its unique blend of South American grooves, Argentine folk songs, the passion of tango and Jazz improvisation.

Unstoppably betting on high quality musical programmes, the 22nd MIMF reserves tomorrow night (14/10, 8pm, Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium) for the third biggest orchestra in Canada. The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) is preparing to come to Macao to establish the link between South Korea and Mainland China, within its first international tour in seventeen years.
