Inauguration of “Annual Arts Exhibition between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries – The Universe”

The “Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and Portuguese-Speaking Countries”, organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, has been launched, featuring a series of excellent activities in July, of which one of the four thematic exhibitions, the “Annual Arts Exhibition between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries – The Universe”, was inaugurated on Sunday, 8 July, at 3:30pm, at the Ox Warehouse. The opening ceremony was officiated by the Vice President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Kent Ieong Chi Kin; the Deputy Chief of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao S.A.R., Xin Jianbo; the renowned Macao’s artist Mio Pang Fei; the curator Feng Boyi and the Head of the Department of Exhibitions and Museums of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Lei Lai Kio.

In the exhibition “The Universe”, the curator from Mainland China Feng Boyi and Wang Xiaosong take on the Buddhist concept of the “universe” to represent the close relationship between Macao, Mainland China and Portuguese-speaking countries, analyzing the peculiar interrelationships among reality, art and the exhibition sites. The participating artists include renowned contemporary artists from Mainland China, Liu Jianhua, Mao Tongqiang, Sui Jianguo, Yang Mushi, Yin Xuizhen, Zhang Xiaotao and Zhao Zhao. The exhibition presents the forefront of contemporary art of Mainland China, bringing the representative works to Macao. The dramatic techniques of the artists bring a new dynamics and lead the audience to think about the meaning.

The “Annual Arts Exhibition between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries – The Universe”, is held from 9 July to 9 September, at the Ox Warehouse, located at Intersection of Avenida do Coronel Mesquita and Avenida Almirante Lacerda. The other three extraordinary exhibitions of the Annual Arts Exhibition include “Penetrate”, “Aiya” and “Alter Ego”, which are held at various cultural facilities. Admission to the exhibitions is free. All are welcome.
