Exhibition

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao S.A.R. Government and co-organised by the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macao and the Alliance Française de Macao, the art exhibition “Vanishing Techniques – Photography of Jean Baudrillard” opens to the public on Friday, the 10th of May, at 6:30pm at Tap Seac Gallery. This exhibition, belonging to both the 24th Macao Arts Festival and the 2013 Le French May Festival programmes, features some 50 photographs by the renowned French thinker.

Vanishing Techniques is the most complete and comprehensive introduction to Baudrillard’s work since his death, the photographs having been personally selected by the late thinker’s wife, Marine Baudrillard, and curated by the Chinese-French art critic Mr. Fei Dawei. The art of photography allowed Baudrillard to reveal his different way of looking at and perceiving the world, and his photographic works had great international impact. This exhibition offers the public the chance to experience intriguing works of art while, at the same time, broadening their horizons.

To enrich the public’s comprehension of Baudrillard’s photographic theory and ideas, a seminar is being offered on the 11th of May, from 2:30pm to 5:30pm, at Tap Seac Gallery. Two specialists in Baudrillard’s work, Gu Zheng and Che Hio Ieong, will join the exhibition’s curator in presenting and discussing the French thinker’s life, works and research. The seminar will be conducted in Mandarin and Cantonese. Those interested in attending may enrol to reserve their seats, while vacancies remain, until the 10th of May, by calling 8399 6699 (during office hours).

Vanishing Techniques – Photography of Jean Baudrillard” runs from May 11th until July 28th at Tap Seac Gallery (located on Tap Seac Square at 95 Avenida do Conselheiro Ferreira de Almeida) and is open daily from 10am to 7pm. Admission is free.
