Considered an iconoclast in the dance world, Xavier Le Roy is an outstanding French choreographer who draws on diverse influences from the worlds of science, performance art and contemporary dance. Trained as a molecular biologist, he approaches his work scientifically, starting with a single idea or question. Concerned with the representation of the body, Self-Unfinished presents Le Roy alone on stage as he morphs between human and machine, slowly contorting his body into a variety of surprising poses, deviating as far as possible from an identifiable human figure. The hour-long piece, performed in silence, suggests a world of multiple possibilities and reveals Le Roy’s ongoing interest in robotics.

“Rigorously simple and wildly imaginative… an invigorating theatrical experience.”
New York Times
