Jointly organized by the Macao Museum of Art (MAM), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and He Duoling Art Museum, co-organized by the Macao Foundation and supported by the Mountain Art Foundation, the large-scale exhibition “Rebirth in the Spring Breeze: Art Exhibition of He Duoling” was inaugurated on 6 November, at 6:30pm, on the second floor of the MAM. The opening ceremony was officiated by the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, Mok Ian Ian; the Vice-President of the Administrative Committee of the Macao Foundation, Zhong Yi Seabra de Mascarenhas; the Assistant of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, Wang Yuwei; the Director of He Duoling Art Museum, Zhao Huan; the Executive Director of the Mountain Art Foundation, Lin Cheng; the Director of the Macao Daily News, Lok Po; the President of the Macau Artist Society, Lok Hei; the curator Yao Feng; and the artist He Duoling.

He Duoling is one of the leading figures in contemporary Chinese painting whose works are imbued with a mysterious artistic language. This exhibition features nearly 50 pieces (sets) of sketches and oil paintings by the artist. In over 40 years of artistic creation, regardless of whether it is through his precise and realistic style prevalent in the early years, or the freehand brushwork of “between likeness and unlikeness” seen in recent years, He Duoling has always used poetic and lyrical language to express beauty. The several exhibits of the Russian Forest series is the best testimony to his vigorous creativity, which feature the portraits of Russian artists in dark forests, including Pushkin, Shostakovich and Akhmatova, manifesting the thrilling fiery creativity and spring breeze. In the opening ceremony, the excerpts of Shostakovich’s music performed by the Macao Orchestra, and the free distribution of painting-inspired poetry cards on site, fully embody the cross-media connection and fusion between He Duoling’s works, music and poetry.
