Open Call for the exhibition “Artworks of Macao Artists 2019”

Date of publication: 04/04/2019
Type: Exhibition

With 2019 marking the 20th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland and also the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao Museum of Art (MAM), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, MAM and the National Art Museum of China (NAMOC) especially co-organised the exhibition “Artworks of Macao Artists 2019”, aiming to review the creative achievements of Macao’s contemporary visual art, promote exchanges between art communities in Macao and Mainland China, and strengthen inheritance of tradition and innovation in the development of Macao’s visual art. MAM intends to select artworks by open submission and all interested artists may submit their works from 17 to 20 May 2019.

NAMOC, the most important hall of fine arts in China, offers exhibition spaces for pieces of national art. In 2009, MAM and NAMOC co-organised the “Confluence — A Collection from the Macao Museum of Art” (Beijing) and the “Glories of the Dawn — Masterpieces from the Oil Painting Collection of the National Art Museum of China” (Macao) for the first time. Ten years later, the two museums once again jointly presented the “Beauty in the New Era — Masterpieces from the Collection of the National Art Museum of China”. Furthermore, they plan to hold the exhibition “Artworks of Macao Artists 2019” at NAMOC in November 2019. In this way, Macao’s contemporary art can be extended onto the stage of Mainland China, enabling the people to understand current status of arts in Macao, and broaden the horizons of Macao artists by enhancing their popularity. MAM intends to select local outstanding artistic talents and works for exhibition through this open submission.

Applicants for the open submission must be holders of a valid Macao S.A.R. Permanent or Non-permanent Resident Identity Card and aged 18 or above. They can apply as individual or in groups. The submitted works must be originals completed within the past two years and have never been publicly displayed. Categories of entries are: Chinese Painting & Calligraphy, Western Painting Media, and 3D & Cross-media Art. The regulations and the application form for the exhibition can be downloaded on IC’s website (www.icm.gov.mo) or the MAM’s website (www.MAM.gov.mo). For enquiries, please email to MAM@icm.gov.mo or call MAM through tel. no. 8791 9859 or 8791 9814 during office hours.
