18th Macao City Fringe Festival inaugurated

Jointly organised by the Macao Museum of Art (MAM), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and the State Tretyakov Gallery, the exhibition “Masterpieces of Russian Art from the State Tretyakov Gallery” will be inaugurated on Friday, 18 January, at 6:30pm, on the 1st floor of MAM, featuring a total of 70 oil paintings and sculptures collected by the State Tretyakov Gallery from the end of the 18th century to the present. Free commemorative tickets with particular value by collectors will be distributed on a first come, first served basis at the reception on the 1st floor of MAM from 6pm on the day of the opening ceremony. All are welcome to attend.

Boasting more than 180,000 works, the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow is an art museum that houses the largest collection of Russian paintings in the world. This exhibition features masterpieces by celebrated artists of “The Wanderers” and works by Russian artists depicting folk culture, natural landscape and portraits of celebrity of their country. This large-scale exhibition is also the first major display of Russian fine art in Macao. The exhibition presents the major artistic styles and trends of Russia from the end of the 18th century to mid-20th century through different exhibits, reflecting the unique features of Russian art from different perspectives as well as the living habits and traits of Russian in the past 200 years. All works are from famous artists such as I.N. Kramskoi, I.Y. Repin, I.I. Shishkin, and V.Y. Makovsky, among others, allowing the public to get close with firsthand originals by Russian arts masters for visual dialogue, bringing artistic experience with exotic styles for audience, thus reflecting the influence of Russian oil paintings on the early development of oil paintings in New China and its nationalization.  

The exhibition “Masterpieces of Russian Art from the State Tretyakov Gallery” is jointly organised by the Macao Museum of Art, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and the State Tretyakov Gallery, co-organised by the Macao Government Tourism Office, the Russia-China Foundation of Developing Culture, Education and Sience the Macau Artists Society and the Macao Daily, and is supported by the China Association for International Friendship Contact and the Russia-China Committee of Friendship, Peace and Development. The exhibition runs until 22 April. The Macao Museum of Art, located at Avenida Xian Xing Hai, NAPE, is open daily from 10am to 7pm, including public holidays (no admittance after 6:30pm) and closes on Mondays. Admission is free.
