The “3rd Macao Printmaking Triennial” presents a variety of international works

The “3rd Macao Printmaking Triennial”, organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will showcase 175 winning and finalist works at different art venues from 28 December 2018 onwards, presenting the in-depth dialogues and collision of thoughts at this large-scale event of international printmaking art. All are welcome.

The exhibition features a myriad of outstanding works created in various forms. Seeking innovation while adhering to artistic traditions, these works not only reflect the artists’ in-depth study of techniques, but also combine the innovative plate making, media, printing and integrated techniques. These works cover a wide range of themes, showing different artistic visions and perspectives of the artists from different cultural backgrounds, allowing the audience to appreciate the diverse aspects of printing art from all over the world and to understand the new trends and developments in contemporary printmaking. This edition of the triennial received an enthusiastic response. It attracted over 1,000 entries from 39 countries and regions, including Asia, Europe, the United States and Oceania. After a meticulous evaluation by the adjudicating panel, a total of 175 winning and finalist works were selected, including “Windows encounter” and “Skyline by Fifth Floor (I)” by Macao artists Wong Wai I and Loi Chi Fong, respectively.

In order to deepen the public’s understanding of the art of printmaking, the Cultural Affairs Bureau will hold a thematic seminar for the “3rd Macao Printmaking Triennial” on 5 January 2019, from 10am to 12:30pm, at the Macao Contemporary Art Centre – Navy Yard No.1, conducted by the Associate Professor of the School of Arts of the Macao Polytechnic Institute, Sou Pui Kun, and the Vice Director of the Printmaking Art Committee of China Artists Association and Professor of the China Academy of Art, Zhang Minjie, who will talk about the art of printmaking. There are 40 seats available for the seminar. Distribution will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Admission is free. All interested parties aged 12 or above are welcome to register. Registration can be made online through the Cultural Affairs Bureau’s Activity Registration System (www.icm.gov.mo/eform/event) until 3 January 2019.

The opening and award ceremony of the “3rd Macao Printmaking Triennial” will be held on 4 January 2019, at 6:30pm, at the Macao Contemporary Art Centre – Navy Yard No.1. The exhibition runs from 28 December 2018 to 17 March 2019, including on public holidays, at a number of art venues in Macao, including Macao Contemporary Art Centre – Navy Yard No.1, Tap Seac Gallery, Temporary Exhibition Gallery of the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, Exhibitions Gallery and Nostalgic House of Taipa Houses.
