Announcement of the winning works of “3rd Macao Printmaking Triennial”
Polish artist awarded Gold Prize out of over 1,000 entries

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the evaluation of entries for the “3rd Macao Printmaking Triennial” has been completed recently at Macao Contemporary Art Center - Navy Yard No.1. This edition of the triennial received an enthusiastic response. After a meticulous evaluation by the adjudicating panel, a total of 175 winning and finalist works were selected out of 1,097 entries.

The Gold Prize was awarded to the work “Habitable structure” by Polish artist Łukasz Koniuszy, while the Silver and Bronze Prizes were awarded to the works “The remains of the painful thing 6” and “The way of harvester No. 2” by Thai artists Warranutchai Kajaree by Rattana Sudjarit, respectively. This year, seven Honorable Mentions were awarded to seven artists (in arbitrary order): Alberto Balletti from Italy, Bianca Cork from the United Kingdom, Chalita Tantiwitkosol from Thailand, Cao Jianhong, Li Can and Zuo Wei from Mainland China and Lee Wen-Jye from Taiwan.

Established in 2012, the “3rd Macao Printmaking Triennial” has called for submission of works from all over the world, providing a platform for the international exchange of the art of printmaking. Since its establishment, it has been well received by local and foreign artists. This edition of the Triennial attracted a total of 1,097 entries by 720 participants from 39 countries and regions, reaching the highest record in the number of entries over the past editions. The result was very encouraging.

The adjudicating panel of the Triennial was comprised of internationally renowned printmakers, specialists and academics, including the Artist and Honorary Director of the Printmaking Department of the National School of Visual Arts of La Cambre (E.N.S.A.V.) in Brussels, Belgium, Maurice Pasternak; Professor Emeritus of the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada, Walter Jule; Former Director of the Bangkok Art and Culture Center, Luckana Kunavichayanont; Honorary Professor of the School of Visual Art of National University of Arts in Korea, Kwak Namsin; Vice Director of the Printmaking Art Committee of China Artists Association and Professor of the China Academy of Art, Zhang Minjie; Director of the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Lin Ping and Associate Professor of the School of Arts of the Macao Polytechnic Institute, Sou Pui Kun.

The list of winning and finalist works is now available on the website of the “3rd Macao Printmaking Triennial” at www.icm.gov.mo/printmaking/2018. The opening and awarding ceremony will be held on 4 January 2019, at 6:30pm, at Macao Contemporary Art Center - Navy Yard No.1. The 175 winning and finalist works will be exhibited from 28 December 2018 to 17 March 2019, at Macao Contemporary Art Center - Navy Yard No.1, Tap Seac Gallery, Temporary Exhibition Gallery of the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, Exhibitions Gallery and Nostalgic House of the Taipa Houses.
