Opera superstar at CCM
Joyce DiDonato in concert

Date of publication: 29/11/2018
Type: Concert

The Macao Cultural Centre, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, presents a performance by Joyce DiDonato, one of the greatest opera singers of our time, opening a string of shows that will celebrate CCM’s 20th anniversary.

The elegant American diva steps on the Grand Auditorium’s stage in the early days of the New Year wearing gowns by fashion icon Vivienne Westwood and accompanied by Il Pomo d’Oro, a virtuosic Baroque orchestra directed by Maxim Emelyanychev. DiDonato and her entourage are bringing In War and Peace, an outstanding line-up of arias masterly interpreted and swiftly dramatized by the choreographed moves of a dancer. Taking a fresh approach to each composition, DiDonato’s timbre ranges between innocent simplicity and consummated emotions. The show renders an insightful perspective on Baroque music, with works by English composer Henry Purcell, German genius George Frideric Handel, and the Italian creativity of Leonardo Leo.

Proclaimed by the New Yorker as “the most potent female singer of her generation”, the mezzo-soprano Grammy winner has conquered audiences across the globe with powerful and meaningful performances. The In War & Peace tourmade furor with concerts at prestigious venues, from New York's Carnegie Hall and London's Barbican Centre, to the Berlin Philharmonie and the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris.

For those who wish to find more about the diva, CCM hosts a free admission pre-show talk to be presented in Cantonese at the centre’s Conference Room, one hour prior to the concert. The speaker will share insightful views on DiDonato’s background and repertoire with a special focus on baroque vocal music.

CCM is presenting “Joyce DiDonato – In War & Peace: Harmony Through Music” on January 13, 2019 (Sunday). Tickets will be available from December 2 at CCM’s box office and Macao Ticketing Network outlets at various prices and discounts.
