A Gathering of Treasures

The 70th Anniversary Art Exhibition of the Yu Un Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Association of Macao

Introduction

Since its establishment in 1953, the Yu Un Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Association of Macao has held many salons and exhibitions. For seven decades, the association has been committed to passing on and advocating the art of Chinese calligraphy, painting and seal carving. It provides a place for veteran and emerging artists to observe and display artworks – making it a platform of creative exchanges and progressive ideas. It has greatly united local calligraphers, painters and seal carvers over the years while also promoting artistic exchange at home and abroad. The association has a tremendous infl uence in Macao’s art scene and is an important cog in the development of modern Chinese calligraphy and painting in the city.

To mark the association’s outstanding contribution to the local art scene, the Macao Museum of Art under the Cultural Affairs Bureau has organised A Gathering of Treasures: The 70 th Anniversary Art Exhibition of the Yu Un Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Association of Macao . The show displays 200 pieces and sets of Chinese paintings, calligraphic works and seal carvings. The respectable veteran artists from the Yu Un Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Association of Macao, including Chui Tak Kei, Deng Fen, Luo Shuzhong, Situ Qi, Gan Heng, Lin Jin and U Kuan Wai, have their works – with their artistic knowledge and skills – featured in the exhibition. The show covers different styles, including Chinese landscape paintings with magnify cent scenery, art pieces that spark spontaneous emotional responses, calligraphic works that employ spirited and vigorous brushstrokes, as well as exquisite seal carvings.
