Commissioned by the Macao Arts Festival to organize a Cantonese Opera performance featuring local artists, the Chan Wa Cantonese Opera Art Association presents Beauty Fades from the Twelve Ladies’ Bower, a tragic love story written by Cantonese opera playwright Tang Disheng.

Li Haiyan, a singer from the Twelve Ladies’ Bower, is betrothed to Wei Dingyi in their childhood. Later, the marriage not becoming reality, Haiyan marries the King of Hailing and bears him a daughter. Upon Dingyi’s return, the King’s sister falls for him and secretly gives birth to his child. The sister asks Haiyan to explain her predicament to the King, but he misunderstands the situation and, thinking his wife has betrayed him, kills her supposed lover. Wrongfully accused, Haiyan puts an end to her life.
