The Deutsche Radio Philharmonie (DRP) is the first symphonic group to be formed through the fusion of two radio orchestras. Formed in September 2007, it continues the traditions of two well-established institutions – the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Saarbrücken and the Rundfunkorchester Kaiserslautern – and is based in both Saarbrücken and Kaiserslautern. With 114 musicians, it is one of the largest orchestras in the German national public radio service and thus is able to cover a highly diverse repertoire, offering unusual programmes. DRP Principal Conductor Christopher Poppen, who has established a reputation for his innovative programming and his commitment to contemporary music, will conduct a Macao premiere: Britten’s haunting Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings.
