Opera
La Traviata - Macao Celebrates Verdi

Sept. 29, Saturday     Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium     Tickets: MOP 350, 200, 100

One of Giuseppe Verdi’s masterpieces, La Traviata is an adaptation of the novel La Dame aux Camellias by French author Alexandre Dumas fils. Verdi composed this opera, whose exquisite melodic lines capture the tragedy of this story of doomed love, at the peak of his career. Today, La Traviata is the mostly frequently performed opera in the world.

The production of La Traviata in Macao this year will unite on the stage all the elements of Italy’s rich classical tradition. Under the direction of Maurizio di Mattia of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, the Orchestra Internazionale d’Italia will be joined by a cast of internationally renowned operatic soloists. The set will be designed by the world-famous Teatro di San Carlo. All in all, La Traviata promises to be a spectacular centerpiece at this year’s Macao International Music Festival.
