Due to the impact of the novel coronavirus pneumonia, most of the members of the jury of the 38th Macau Young Musicians Competition (the Competition), organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), are unable to visit Macao. In order to reduce the risk of crowds gathering, the Competition will adopt an “online assessment of recorded performances and announcement of competition results” in place of “assessment of live performances and announcement of competition”.
This edition of the Competition will start on 15 August and will be dedicated to Chinese and Western instruments and vocal music, featuring a number of categories including strings, woodwinds, brass, Chinese instruments and vocal music. Due to the impact of the epidemic, the competition will not be assessed on-site, but will adopt the method of “online assessment of recorded performances and announcement of competition results” in place of “assessment of live performances and announcement of competition”. In order to ensure the impartiality, participants must follow the Competition schedule (final version) announced on 26 June, and the Organiser will record the participants’ instrumental/vocal performances at one time, without re-recording arranged. The assessment of performances will be made based on the video recordings provided by IC. There will be no on-site awarding on the day of the Competition. The competition results will be announced through the Competition’s website on 16 September. The Special Prize Competition will be rescheduled, date to be announced later.
This edition of the Competition will be held at the Macao Museum of Art and at the Healthy Life Education Centre of the Social Welfare Bureau. To safeguard public health, participants and audiences must strictly comply with the epidemic prevention guidelines on the “38th Macao Young Musicians Competition” provided by IC during the Competition. All participants, accompanists, assistants and audiences should wear face masks, which will not be provided on site, during the entire event, and participants in the flute, dizi, other wind instruments and vocal categories are allowed to remove their masks when performing on stage, but have to keep at least 2 metres away from others. Each participant individual/group can only bring accompanist, page turner and a maximum of two audiences to the competition venue.
