The theme of The 17th International Architecture Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia is‘How will we live together?’, curated by Hashim Sarkis, Dean of the School of Architecture and Planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The Macao-China Pavilion has been organised by the MAM of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, in co-operation with the Architects Association of Macau. The participating groups are to be selected through an open call. Exhibiting teams must have at least two members, one of whom is the curator and the remaining members are the exhibitors. Each member must be 18 years old or above and hold an identity card indicating he or she is a Macao permanent resident. At least one of the team members must have academic background in urban construction or urbanism, but there are no restrictions regarding the background of other team members. The selection committee will be composed of senior architects from Macao and overseas, as well as representatives from the Cultural Affairs Bureau. The results will be announced in October of this year. The selected team will receive a maximum production fee of MOP$600,000.00 and a transportation and accommodation fee for no more than three people to and from Venice.

The International Architecture Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia was held in 1980 for the first time and it has become the most influential international event of architectural art and architectural studies in the world, providing various regions around the world with an important communication platform for architectural art and cultural exchanges. Since 2014, the Cultural Affairs Bureau, using the denomination of 'Macao, China', has organised the Macao architecture industry and counterparts participating in the exhibition. It has displayed the face of Macao's architectural art on the international stage, with some results achieved in the past three sessions. This year's session will be organised in an open call to encourage more local architectural art and related creative talents to participate actively.
