The most recent edition of the Review of Culture (RCI 48) opens a path to reflection on the field of the Arts. The work of the photographer Ieong Man Pan is widely deconstructed in two essays by Margarida Saraiva and Tiago Quadros. In the module “The Dimensions of the Canon”, Giorgio Sinedino draws an outline of the Chinese Concept of “Art”. The mural paintings of the Chapel of Our Lady of Guia are the guideline for the work presented by Isabel Lampreia.

The intellectual and academic life of Macao, the origin and development of the Macanese community in Asia, and the Chinese folk religion in Macao by Keith Morrison, Roy Eric Xavier and Rex Wilson, respectively, are leading to sociological argument in this issue.

The section on Historiography finalizes this number, with the illustration of the model of inquisitorial representation in Macao in the 16th century by Miguel Rodrigues Lourenço as well as the Chinese penal system and mentality in the 19th century, an analysis by Anabela Leandro dos Santos.

The Review of Culture, published by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, is available at the Portuguese Bookstore, Cultural Plaza, Seng Kwong Bookstore, Macao Historical Archives and Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre. It is also available for consultation at the Central Library and the Historical Archives of Macao and at the libraries of Macao universities.
