The Macao Orchestra (MO), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, takes to the Dom Pedro V Theatre stage with the chamber music concert “Hurray! Modern Music!” on Saturday, 4 July, at 8pm. Tickets are available at the Macau Ticketing network.

Aside from famed composers Bach, Beethoven and Tchaikovsky, there were many rival composers that influenced the development of music in the early 20th century. This concert, directed by MO’s Assistant Conductor, Francis Kan, features three modern chamber music works of different styles. In this concert, the orchestra will present North-American composer André Previn’s work Four Outings for Brass, whose contemporary musicality fuses traditional musical elements from the United States and Scotland. André Previn began his career in Hollywood’s movies music circles. The orchestra also presents Richard Strauss’ Suite for 13 Wind Instruments in B-flat major, Op. 4, whose combination of 13 instruments and musical languages translates the musical characteristics of the late romantic period. Lastly, the MO presents Dixtuor for Winds, Op, 14, by Romanian composer George Enescu, a piece for wind instruments, offering the audience different experiences of contemporary music.
