Prizes

Prizes (Cash Awards and Certificates)

Scores will be awarded on a scale of 0 to 100. If there is more than one judge scoring a particular performance, the final score will be the average of all the judges’ scores, and will be calculated to two digits after the decimal point.

The three top scorers in each category must have scores of 85 or above in order to receive First, Second, or Third Prize. Base on the performance of the competitors, the judges reserve the right not to award First, Second, or Third Prize.

Prize-winners will receive the following certificates based on their final scores:

Certificate of Merit a score of 85 or above;
Certificate of Competence a score of 75 or above and below 85.

 

Special Prizes

Cultural Affairs Bureau Prize

This MOP100,000 scholarship prize is provided by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao S.A.R. Government and is awarded to one winner at the age of 15 or above whose performance the judges consider to have been truly outstanding. The scholarship may be used to attend music course offered by university in Macao or abroad. The winner will also be awarded a Cultural Affairs Bureau Certificate.

All first-prize winners in each category, or those competitors that the judges have recommended as outstanding performers, may compete for this prize.

The Talented Prizes

The Talented Prize provided by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao S.A.R. Government is a MOP30,000 scholarship awarded to a maximum of 10 winners who are at the age of 18 or below and considered to have talents, which shall be used to attend music course or master class in Macao or abroad. Each winner will be awarded a scholarship of MOP30,000 and a Talented Prizes Certificate.

All first-prize winners in each category, or those competitors that the judges have recommended as outstanding performers, may compete for this prize.

The Best Ensemble Performance Prize

The Best Ensemble Performance Prize sponsored by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao S.A.R. Government is a MOP5,000 prize that will be awarded to an ensemble with an outstanding performance. The First-prize winners of each Chamber Music, Ensemble, or Vocal Ensemble category or the groups recommended by the judges may compete for this prize. The winner will also be awarded a Best Ensemble Performance Prize Certificate.

 

Selection of “Special Prizes” Winners and “Winners’ Gala Concert” Performers

The Selection of “Special Prizes” Winners and “Winners’ Gala Concert” Performers will take place after the completion of the entire competition. All first-prize winners in each category, or those competitors that the judges have recommended as outstanding performers, must perform the compulsory piece(s) or free choice piece(s), and judges will choose the recipient(s) of the Cultural Affairs Bureau Prize, the Talented Prize, and the Best Ensemble Performance Prize from among them, as well as the performers of the “Winners’ Gala Concert”. This selection process is not open to the public.

If the judges agree that none of the candidates can be recommended for the above special prizes, the Organiser reserves the right not to award the prizes.

 

The Awards Ceremony and Winners’ Gala Concert

The Awards Ceremony and Winners’ Gala Concert will take place at the Dom Pedro V Theatre on 28th July 2012 (Saturday) at 3 p.m. Performers at this event will be selected by the judges on the day of the Selection of Special Prizes Winners and Winners’ Gala Concert Performers. In order to achieve a balanced concert programme, performers may be selected from among any of the First, Second, or Third-prize winners in each category as well as from the competitors that the judges have recommended for any of the Special Prizes. The Organiser will notify by telephone those who are selected to perform at the Winners’ Gala Concert.

In addition, the winners of the Special Prizes will be announced at this event.

Tickets for the Winners’ Gala Concert cost MOP20. During the Competition, tickets will be on sale at the competition venue; after the competition, they will be available for purchase at the Tap Seac Gallery (Avenida do Conselheiro Ferreira de Almeida, No. 95), from Monday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
