The annual Macao Youth Music Competition is organized by the Cultural Institute of the Macao S.A.R. Government with the aim of advancing the musical arts in the territory and enhancing the training and performance abilities of local young musicians. In the course of its twenty-one-year history, the competition has given thousands of young people the opportunity to gain precious stage experience, and thus has played a vital role in the improvement of the musical skills of Macao’s youth. In 2003, the Cultural Institute altered the format of the competition, scheduling the piano events on alternate years from the competitions in Chinese instruments, Western instruments and Vocals. The piano competition was held in 2003, so this year the 22nd annual competition will be comprised of the competitions in Chinese instruments, Western instruments and Vocals.
